Part 3, the final essay for this mini series, on creating my pomodoro music channel. In creating the music and videos for the minuteur music Youtube channel, I hunted down both paid and free tools.
These are some of the best out there.
The idea is to use existing resources I have as much as possible. I already have accounts with Filmstro,Uppbeat and Audiio.
Some of these sites dish out amazing free content. By providing great value, they’re hoping to convert their audience into paid users.
Resources used
- Editing Software: Davinci Resolve (Free)
- Music: YouTube Music Library in YouTube Studio (Free)
Audiio.com, FilmStro.com, Uppbeat.io (Paid) - Video: Pexels.com, Pixabay.com (Free)
DepositPhotos.com, YayImages.com (Paid) - Countdown timer on how to – from YouTube tutorial and template (Free)
- YouTube (Free and I want it to pay me :P)
What are the obstacles and lessons?
- Need to achieve 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours before monetising.
- Due to my subject matter: little auxiliary/affiliate product possibilities.
- Very time consuming: It takes lot of effort to pick the right music, music played at 1.5x isn’t the same nor expect it to sound relaxing or calming.
Editing such long clips takes time to check each transition and flow too. - Even with the licensed music, I still received a copyright notice. YouTube’s algorithm mistook the piece of music. I contacted the music site and they mentioned it does happen, more often than they like. They resolved the matter speedily.
- Getting all the necessary music rights cleared is very important, otherwise YouTube can stop monetising anytime or even take down the channel completely.
There’re still many behind the scenes effort, like creating thumbnails, getting the right tags, descriptions for each clip, designing of the logo and trying YT Shorts are not covered. If there’s enough interest, I’ll love to share.
Success?
No, at the point of writing, the channel is no where close to being successful.
Fail? – maybe, but it’s a #win for experience. The videos are used to help me focus and practise pomodoro productivity.
I acknowledged it needs more videos, the correct length or music before it gets picked up by more people. I’ll return to create more videos as I gather more music.
